I’m not sure who the president of the Ione James fan club is but she better watch her back because I feel a coup brewing. We all knew Ryan Adams was planning on releasing a 1989 cover album, what none of us knew was that The Reverend was going to feel compelled to throw his sardonic hat in the ring. Ryan Adams released his album today and earlier tonight Pearson tweeted, “my take on the seminal Ryan Adams album 1989” with a soundcloud link to a cover of Blank Space in the style of the Velvet Underground. Shortly thereafter he threw up a cover of Welcome To New York with the note “my continued tribute to the classic Adams album.” While we can’t really tell if this is born of deep love or deep loathing (we're inclined to assume the latter), what we will say is Pearson has a future as a Lou Reed impersonator should this folk rock enfant terrible act fail him. Listen below and weigh in.

ETA: Pearson deleted the songs from soundcloud but since nothing dies on the internet, see below for youtubes. Representation for Pearson wasn ot available for comment.
